Bruno Mölder. Informational atomism versus inferential role semantics in Jerry Fodor's

Concepts: Where Cognitive Science Went Wrong

Abstract

This review essay on Jerry Fodor's "Concepts: Where Cognitive Science Went Wrong" concentrates on Fodor's informational atomism with respect of concepts and his rejection of inferential role theories of concepts (definition theory, feature theory and theory-theory). It is argued that Fodor's arguments against both inferential role semantics and these theories of concepts are not conclusive and that his own account leaves out the cognitive significance of concepts.
